11 October 2013: launch of Envisioning Christ on the Cross: Ireland and the Early Medieval West, ed. by Jenifer N铆 Ghr谩daigh, Juliet Mullins and Richard Hawtree (Four Courts Press).

The guest speaker, Dr Colm谩n 脫 Clabaigh OSB, a Benedictine monk at Glenstal Abbey and author of The Friars in Ireland, 1224-1540, remarked on the volume鈥檚 fine production values but more importantly its impressive scholarly richness, which counts numerous essays by leading medieval scholars from across a diverse range of disciplines. Envisioning Christ on the Cross deals with the presentation of Christ on the Cross in medieval art and literature from the fifth to the twelfth century, in works produced both in Ireland and across Europe, thus permitting analysis of Irish examples within the broader European context.
