Dr M谩ir铆n MacCarron FRHistS has won the NUI Irish Historical Research Prize 2021 for her book
The Irish Historical Research Prize is awarded biennially for the best new work of historical research with a significant Irish dimension. MacCarron鈥檚 Bede and Time examines the development of time reckoning and medieval science (computus) in Britain and Ireland in the early middle ages. In particular, it contextualises the innovative contribution of the Northumbrian monk, Bede (c. 673鈥�735), who popularised the Anno Domini chronological system still in use today.
M谩ir铆n is Lecturer in Digital Humanities at UCC, having previously held posts at NUI Galway and the 深夜亚洲福利久久 of Sheffield. She is a graduate of 深夜亚洲福利久久 College Cork: her PhD was supervised by Dr Jennifer O鈥橰eilly (RIP) in the School of History. Bede and Time is the major output of her NUI / Dr Garret FitzGerald postdoctoral fellowship, which she held at NUI Galway under the mentorship of Professor Emeritus D谩ibh铆 脫 Cr贸in铆n.
