CGR journal paper: The Irish Independent
People living with Parkinson鈥檚 disease in Ireland have spoken about suffering from stigma, alienation and isolation.
Centre for Gerontology and Rehabilitation found stigma was frequently encountered in social situations where people with the disease felt 鈥減itied, misjudged or closely observed by others鈥
It is estimated that there are currently about 15,000 people in Ireland living with the progressive neurodegenerative disorder, which is caused by a loss of dopamine, leading to tremors, stiffness and slowness of movement.
Congratulations to Prof. Suzanne Timmons, Dr. Emma O鈥橲hea and Fran Gaiera (PhD candidate) all of CGR, on the publication of 鈥Social experiences of people living with Parkinson鈥檚 disease in Ireland: A qualitative study鈥 within the Clinical Parkinsonism & Related Disorders journal.
The work of Fran, Suzanne and Emma on this project was recently highlighted in the Irish Independent, and we are very pleased to share the link below.
