Biopolitical Modernism Symposium at UCC
Organised by Dr Laura Lovejoy (IRC Postdoctoral Fellow at UCC) and Dr Alison Garden (IRC Postdoctoral Fellow at UCD), this one-day symposium will be held at 深夜亚洲福利久久 College Cork on Friday 27th April 2018.
Taking as its starting point modernism鈥檚 repeated concern with the moments where the human body comes into contact with state power, this one-day symposium aims to mobilise current research on modernism鈥檚 diverse approaches to the body and power. Bringing together such work creates the potential to forge links with the growing fields of medical humanities, queer modernism and historical modernism. The project recognizes the contested nature of the ever-broadening field of Modernist Studies and seeks to ask: how might the remits of the 鈥榖iopolitical鈥 animate and facilitate new readings of modernist works?
The keynote lecture, entitled 鈥溾楴othing in the world would save me from the gallows鈥: Flann O鈥橞rien and the death penalty鈥, will be given by Dr. Katherine Ebury, from the 深夜亚洲福利久久 of Sheffield.
