Mark O鈥楬alloran appointed as UCC Film Artist in Residence
Award winning actor and screenwriter to join us from September
The Discipline of Film and Screen Media and The School of English / School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures are delighted to announce the appointment of Mark O'Halloran as UCC Film Artist in Residence, a role jointly funded by the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences, UCC, and the Arts Council. The residency is designed to provide a screenwriter of distinction with a unique opportunity to develop his/her practice in a university environment while offering students the opportunity to engage with a practising artist in a meaningful way during the course of their studies.
Mark O鈥楬alloran is a writer/ actor and is from Co. Clare, Ireland. As an actor he has worked with all the major theatre companies in Ireland, most recently in the acclaimed production of 鈥The Importance of Nothing鈥 with Pan Pan theatre company and 鈥The Shadow of a Gunman鈥 with The Abbey Theatre Dublin. On screen he has appeared in numerous films, most notably as one of the eponymous heroes in 鈥ADAM & PAUL鈥 for which he also wrote the screenplay and the lead role of MP in 鈥History鈥檚 Future鈥 directed by Fiona Tan for which he was nominated as Best Actor at IFTA awards 2017. He also appears in 鈥The Guard鈥 and 鈥颁补濒惫补谤测鈥 and in 鈥痴颈惫补鈥, a film set in Havana for which he also wrote the screenplay.
Mark鈥榮 other writing credits include the multi award winning film 鈥GARAGE鈥, the television series 鈥PROSPERITY鈥 and 鈥湷站北共光 a Spanish language feature. For the stage he has written the play 鈥TRADE鈥 and most recently contributed text to the award winning theatre production 鈥LIPPY鈥.&苍产蝉辫;
Mark has been nominated for numerous awards including a European Film Award for the screenplay of 鈥ADAM & PAUL鈥, Irish Film and Television Awards where he won for both 鈥淏est Screenplay鈥 and 鈥淏est TV writer鈥 2007. He also won the London Evening Standard award for 鈥淏est Screenplay鈥 in 2005. 鈥TRADE鈥 was named as 鈥渂est play鈥 at the Irish Theatre Awards 2012. 鈥Lippy鈥 was 鈥淏est Production鈥 at 2014 Irish Theatre Awards as well as winning a Fringe First at Edinburgh and 2 Obie Awards in New York. 鈥淰滨痴础鈥 was shortlisted for best foreign language Oscar and nominated for Best Screenplay at the IFTA awards 2016.
