UCC continues strong spin-out and start-up performance

Publication of the Annual Knowledge Transfer Survey 2017 by Knowledge Transfer Ireland (KTI) reports strong performance for 深夜亚洲福利久久 College Cork in research collaborations, business engagement and commercialisation activity.

The survey鈥檚 findings show 深夜亚洲福利久久 College Cork (UCC) as having the highest industry research income of all Irish Universities for the fourth consecutive year. UCC is reported to have executed the highest number of licences, options and assignments and the highest number of student/staff start-up established along with Dublin City 深夜亚洲福利久久.  UCC is also reported as having the highest number of spin-outs along with 深夜亚洲福利久久 College Dublin.

Overall results from the survey indicate that collaboration with Irish industry is thriving and there is a robust pipeline of technology licences, spin-out companies and products reaching the market.

Speaking about the report鈥檚 findings, Professor Anita Maguire, Vice-President for Research & Innovation at UCC said 鈥淭he results of this year鈥檚 Annual Knowledge Transfer Survey show continued strong performance in UCC鈥檚 level of engagement with industry and sustained levels of new venture creation, building on the creativity and excellence of our researchers and research centres.鈥

鈥淭hese results confirm UCC鈥檚 status as an incubator for successful and sustainable new venture creation and hub for start-up companies.鈥

 鈥淭he impact on the economy from public research funding is impressive and highlights the focus on innovation within the Irish research sector as well as the benefit of the continued investment in technology transfer by the Enterprise Ireland and KTI.鈥

2017 national findings in the report for Research Performing Organisations include:

  • 1,324 active research collaborations with industry
  • 24 new products and services launched
  • 915 jobs in Active Spin-out Companies
  • 21 new spin-out companies created
  • 164 licence agreements signed
  • 82 percent of collaboration agreements signed with Irish companies
