CLE Hosts Visiting Lecturer Professor Elizabeth Kirk on LLM Marine and Maritime Law Programme
On Friday 5th of October, the UCC Centre for Law and the Environment hosted a guest lecture by Elizabeth Kirk who is a Professor of International Environmental Law at Nottingham Trent 深夜亚洲福利久久.
is also Deputy Chair of the Governing Board of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, Academy of Environmental Law.
In this lecture on 'Mapping International Law to Marine Ecosystems', chaired by LLM Marine and Maritime Law Director, Dr Bj酶rn-Oliver Magsig, Elizabeth contrasted the traditional approach of international law to ocean governance with more holistic approaches now being adopted, such as the ecosystem approach. In doing so, she explored the gaps and problems that remain in the ability of international law to govern naturally dynamic three-dimensional marine ecosystems that are increasingly affected by human activities.
This guest lecture also built on the CEL鈥檚 ongoing research and knowledge exchange on an ecosystem approach in international and water law, and on , for example, through its collaboration with the under the Navigate project on Ocean law and Marine Governance.
