Unique virtual learning platform for School of Microbiology students
A new initiative at the School of Microbiology is exploring new worlds of virology, cell culture and molecular & cellular biology through virtual/augmented reality and 3D modelling.
The School of Microbiology at UCC has been granted funding by the National Forum for Enhancement of Teaching and Learning to embed an immersive virtual approach to teaching within existing modules on Virology and Molecular & Cellular Biology. This exciting development, which is funded under the Strategic Alignment of Teaching and Learning Enhancement, will see an interactive student-led approach to learning about these fundamental technologies which are key to sustainability of both health and the environment on this planet.
A collaboration between Dr Jerry Reen, Dr Martina Scallan, Dr Niall O鈥橪eary, Dr John Morgan and Dr Brian McSharry (School of Microbiology), and Owen Jump (Applied Psychology), ELEVATE will develop and integrate visual learning technologies within the molecular and cellular based modules in the School. They are joined in this innovative initiative by David Murphy (School of Computer Science and IT), an expert in multimedia and mixed reality platforms.
