First Research Lab at UCC to receive Bronze LEAF Award for Sustainable Lab Practice

Dr F. Jerry Reen鈥檚 research lab in the School of Microbiology, BioSciences Institute has recently been presented with the Bronze LEAF Award for their efforts in developing sustainable practices within the lab environment.

Initiated and led by Mr David Woods, a Senior Researcher in Dr Reen鈥檚 lab, the Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (LEAF) scheme was organised by Mr Pat Mehigan and the GreenLab Team at UCC. In a practical sense, the LEAF is designed to deliver a structured path for improvements in laboratory efficiency and energy conservation, making the lab and its environment more sustainable. David is now taking up a role as Technical Officer in the School of Microbiology at UCC, where his expertise in sustainable lab practice will continue to be of significant benefit.
