Students Dive into Summer Research at the School of Microbiology

This summer, the School of Microbiology welcomed seven undergraduate students as part of its Undergraduate Research Experience in Microbiology Programme.

The placements gave students the chance to step into real research labs, where they worked on their own small-scale research projects. Along the way, they learned new lab techniques, discovered how research is carried out day-to-day, and gained valuable insights into what a future in science might look like.

Professor David Clarke, Head of the School of Microbiology, said: 鈥淲e are delighted to welcome these enthusiastic students into our research community. Programmes like this are a fantastic way to inspire the next generation of microbiologists and give them the skills and confidence to pursue their own research careers.鈥�

Students also shared how much they valued the opportunity. One participant reflected: 鈥淲orking alongside researchers was inspiring. I felt part of the team and gained confidence in my ability to contribute.鈥�
