What is the Microcredential learner Fee Subsidy?
The Higher Education Authoriy has launched the Microcredential Learner fee Subsidy to make short, flexible, accredited courses known as microcredentials more accessible to learners. The funding scheme aims to fund microcredentials in critical skills areas, allowing learners to upskill quickly to help fill skills gaps in industries in an accessible way.
How much is funded?
The Micro-Credential Learner Fee Subsidy offers 80% funding for selected microcredentials and places are limited.
Who is eligible?
To apply for the Microcredential Learner Fee Subsidy, you must meet the HEA funding criteria. Generally, you must:
- Have a valid PPS Number
- Be living full-time in the Republic of Ireland.
- Be an EU, EEA, UK, or Swiss national.
- Have been ordinarily resident in the EU/ EEA/ UK/ Switzerland for 3 full years out of previous 5 years. (different criteria applies for non-EU applicants)

Which programmes are funded and how do I apply?
The full list of funded microcredentials is below on this page. All applications for funding must be made through the SPringboard+ website - details on how to apply are outlined on each programme page below. Applications will close on 31 July 2026. Places are limited and unemployed and returner applicants will be prioritised.
