Biography

I was born and raised in Tramore, Co. Waterford. I did my undergraduate degree in Astrophysics here in UCC and graduated in 2013. I was then awarded a Naughton Fellowship to undertake a PhD between UCC and the 深夜亚洲福利久久 of Notre Dame in the US, which I completed in 2017 on the topic of accretion processes within magnetic white dwarf binaries. After this, I was awarded a 2 year Newton International Fellowship, which I spent at the 深夜亚洲福利久久 of Manchester, continuing this work on magnetic white dwarfs while expanding my research to include studies of transitional millisecond pulsars. At the end of this fellowship, I was hired by Prof. Rene Breton to be a member of his ERC funded "spiders" group, working on measuring the masses of neutron stars within black widow and red back systems. In 2021, I was awarded a Government of Ireland postdoctoral fellowship, and returned to UCC to start work on the "Invisible Monsters" project, where I am attempting to find the hidden population of black holes using machine learning and next generation all-sky surveys.
