Early career researchers receive awards to support enterprise-engaged research
Six ÉîÒ¹ÑÇÖÞ¸£Àû¾Ã¾Ã College Cork (UCC) early career researchers have been awarded Research Ireland Enterprise Fellowships, enabling them to gain experience beyond academic settings through defined research collaborations, while providing enterprise partners with access to academic knowledge and skills relevant to their interests.
These Research Ireland Enterprise fellowships will support the UCC researchers to undertake full-time research in an eligible research body while working in close partnership with enterprise.
The 2025 programme will deliver through two streams – a Partnership stream, and a Placement stream – each designed to support different modes of research in collaboration with enterprise partners. Distinct enterprise partners are supporting this year’s awardees, and span small, medium and large enterprises, both indigenous and international, as well as not-for-profit bodies and charities.
The six UCC research projects, announced today by Research Ireland, receiving a combined €536,000 are:

Project Title: Development of a magnetic bead–based system for isolating short cell-free DNA from urine for early cancer detection
Dr Quang Vu Dinh, Sustainability Institute
Enterprise Partner: Private Enterprise
Project Title: Energy management and operation of integrated renewable energy, energy storage and green hydrogen production of energy parks
Dr Rupa Ranjani Palanisamy, School of Chemistry
Enterprise Partner: Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI)
Project Title: Next generation thermoelectric generators - approaches to barrier layer optimization and bonding developments.
Dr Keyu Wang, School of Food & Nutritional Sciences
Enterprise Partner: FrieslandCampina B.V.
Project Title: From undesired changes to predictable outcomes - understanding and controlling casein modifications through kinetic data and mechanistic understanding
