International Translation Day is celebrated on 30th September, which is the feast of St Jerome 鈥� patron saint of translators. Researchers in Translation Studies in UCC鈥檚 School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures and CASiLaC鈥檚 Translation and Creative Practice research cluster have organized 鈥楾ranslation Week鈥�, a series of events celebrating translation and translation studies. All are welcome.

The
(FTN) aims to bring together researchers and practitioners to explore what feminist translation means in practice in the twenty-first century. PI, Dr Hilary Brown and Co-I, Dr Olga Castro will give presentations, followed by a feminist translation slam chaired by Elizabeth Rosales Mart铆nez; Ruth Donnelly and Eileen O鈥機onnor will translate and present an extract from the poetry collection Enmirlada, by Blanca Hern谩ndez Rojas.

This paper explores translation of the experimental Catalan poet, visual artist and playwright Joan Brossa (1919-1998) into English, exploring the challenges avantgarde and neo-avantgarde work, in particular, present for cultural translation as well as how successive translations respond to the changing cultural and political situation in Catalonia (and Spain) since the 1960s. Looking at translations and retranslations of the same work(s) diachronically provides unexpected insights into questions of translatability, understood as something that is reconstructed a new in each act of translation.
