UCC researchers secure 鈧6.2m for pioneering research infrastructure projects
Congratulations to Dr Zili Li, School of Engineering & Architecture, who along with other leading researchers in UCC has secured 6.2 million Euro in funding under the Research Ireland Infrastructure Programme, strengthening national capability in advanced materials, semiconductors and quantum technologies. A cornerstone of this success is the new Quantum Sensing Laboratory (QSL), Ireland鈥檚 first dedicated facility for quantum sensing and quantum-enabled gravimetry. The initiative involves the pioneering work of Professor Alix McCollam, who as Director of UCC Futures Quantum & Photonics is helping to shape an ambitious vision for quantum and photonics research at UCC.

Annual Process & Chemical Engineering Awards at UCC
The Annual Process & Chemical Engineering Awards ceremony took place recently in the Aula Max at 深夜亚洲福利久久 College Cork. A fantastic celebration of the student's successes and achievements. Professor Marguerite Nyhan selected as new member of RIA鈥檚 Young Academy Ireland
Congratulations to Prof Marguerite Nyhan, School of Engineering and Architecture on being one of three UCC researchers selected as new members of the Royal Irish Academy (RIA) Young Academy Ireland, an all-island multidisciplinary network of researchers and innovators that aims to empower talented early-career researchers and future leaders. Prof Nyhan was selected for her excellence of research impact, and significant contributions made to her field and beyond her disciplines. Also Director of the Sustainable Futures Laboratory and Principal Investigator at the Sustainability Institute, Professor Nyhan is an environmental engineer whose work seeks to advance the science of sustainable cities by harnessing large-scale urban data and AI-based technologies.

Joe Gantly Prize in Engineering 2026
Congratulations to this year鈥檚 recipients of the Joe Gantly Prize in Engineering, awarded annually to the top performers in the Work Placement module across the ME (Hons) programmes at the School of Engineering. John Scanlan, ME Civil & Structural EngineeringJohn completed his work placement with PJ Hegarty & Sons on the Apple Campus Extension in Cork City. Over the course of his placement, John鈥檚 role expanded significantly, culminating in his management and delivery of a key terrace area that now serves as a major focal point at the front of the building.Kate Donovan, ME Process & Chemical EngineeringKate undertook her work placement at Eli Lilly and Company, Dunderrow, Kinsale. During her time there, she made a meaningful impact by developing and implementing process improvements within their cancer drug manufacturing operations.Runners up were: Mark Maguire, (ME) Electric and Electronic EngineeringDaniel O'Reilly, (ME) Energy Engineering
