Professor Siobhain O'Mahony announced as President of the Irish Pain Society
Congratulations to Professor Siobhain O鈥橫ahony, Principal Investigator in the Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience UCC, faculty member of the APC Microbiome Ireland and co-founder of FemmeBiome, on her appointment as President of the Irish Pain Society.
Professor Siobhain O鈥橫ahony brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership in evidence-based practice, with a career spanning research, education, and public policy. She continues to utilize her expertise to advance pain treatment and research in ways that directly benefit people鈥檚 lives. Her work places a particular focus on improving approaches to pain treatment and addressing the unique challenges in women鈥檚 health, ensuring that her experience and insight contribute meaningfully to the well-being of the wider public.
The Irish Pain Society, which is a Chapter of the International Association for the Study of Pain, is a non-profit organization comprised of multidisciplinary health care professionals and scientists, dedicated to research, and educational and clinical aspects of pain management. Professor O'Mahony has been an active committee member of the Irish Pain Society, for many years and successfully co-hosted the 2023 Irish Pain Society Annual Scientific Meeting in UCC.
Professor O'Mahony added she is especially committed to ensuring that women鈥檚 health is brought to the forefront. By highlighting the unique challenges and experiences of women, it is possible to drive more inclusive and impactful progress in the field of pain medicine.
