The School is a research active academic unit with a strong commitment to both applied and more theoretical research. We have a wide research profile which focuses on research on specific groups and issues, and the education and training of social professions. The quality and quantity of research undertaken is evidenced by the large number of publications disseminated from research findings.
Grant capture in the last ten years is about 鈧�5.5 million. The School has been awarded research funding from a variety of sources including Combat Poverty, ISPCC, Royal Irish Academy, Dept. of the Taoiseach, the Higher Education Authority, HSE, the British Council, the Irish Research Council and Horizon 2020. The research is strongly aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals. Socially engaged research activities such as CARL are also a cornerstone of our research output.
Our School fosters and mentors scholarship through our fourth-level programmes. Many of our doctoral students have successfully secured scholarships and subsequently go into post-doctoral research employment.
School Areas of Research Expertise
The School鈥檚 research expertise aligns to several UCC Futures research areas in particular Collective Social Futures, Sustainability, Children, Artificial Intelligence & Data Analytics, Future Ageing & Brain Science, and Future Medicines.
In UCC, research ethics is the remit of the 深夜亚洲福利久久 Ethics Committee (UEC). There are three ethics subcommittees under the remit of UEC, one of which is the Social Research Ethics Committee (SREC). This committee (SREC) reviews research proposals submitted by university staff and research-based postgraduate students seeking ethical approval for social research (as distinct from clinical research or research involving animal experimentation). The work of SREC is strongly informed by the UCC Code of Research Conduct (2018).
UEC and SREC seek to ensure that supervisors and researchers are sufficiently supported to undertake research (which may involve human participants) to the highest possible standards and with due regard to the welfare of all concerned.
