School of Applied Psychology Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

The School of Applied Psychology (School) established an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee in September 2022, soon after having achieved an Athena Swan Bronze Award earlier that year.

The EDI Committee works to ensure that EDI principles and values are embedded across our School鈥檚 activities, considering key EDI grounds, as well as additional matter emerged in consultation with the School students and staff.

Our EDI Mission Statement

The School of Applied Psychology UCC is committed to ensuring a culture of equality, inclusion, and respect for all its staff and students. Some of the ways we will ensure this include:

Advancing awareness and encouraging discussion about equality, diversity and inclusion related to the different grounds established through EDI regulation, in addition to issues identified specifically in our School (see diagram below).

Diversifying and decolonising the curriculum.

Increasing visibility and celebration of equality and diversity in the physical and digital spaces of the School.

Having ongoing dialogue with staff and students to profile and address EDI needs.

What is Athena SWAN?

The Athena SWAN charter was launched in 2015 as a framework that is used across the world to promote gender equality in higher education and research, as well as consider the intersectionalities between gender and the other EDI grounds (for more information, read about the EDI legislation ).

An Athena Swan Bronze Award recognises the School鈥檚 commitment to:

  1. Promote equality, diversity and inclusion practices in teaching, learning and research at the School.
  2. Liaise with School鈥檚 students and staff to address and discuss EDI-related opportunity and challenges.

Further information about the Athena Swan Charter in Ireland can be found .

Committee Composition

Our Committee is guided by two staff Co-Chairs and several Champions and Student Representatives overlooking EDI actions, values and priorities related to student and staff. Roles are rotated to enable a diverse group of people to be part of the Committee.
