Get ready for BEES Culture Night 2014
Discover the wonder of the natural world with Culture Night at BEES
Following on from the enormous success of the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences鈥 (BEES) inaugural (with over 1,000 people visiting the school鈥檚 North Mall campus), the wonders of the natural world will once again be on display for Culture Night 2014 on September 19th.
Taking place in the historic Cooperage building, once home to the Cork Distilleries, members of the public can drop in at anytime between 5pm and 8.30pm.
Visitors will be able to see the collection of ancient fossils, slithering reptiles, carnivorous plants, explore many items from our natural history museum, including some of Charles Darwin鈥檚 famous specimens which helped lead him to the theory of natural selection. Or try your hand at some fun experiments, and get up close and personal with some marine life in a touch tank, try bird ringing with the experts and much more at this fun-filled, family-friendly event. You鈥檒l also get a chance to meet with many of our students and staff and find out what fascinates them about the natural world.
Guided tours will be offered at 5.30pm, 6.30pm and 7.30pm to include visits to our unique Geology Garden, wind turbine, greenhouses, fish ponds, and laboratories.
BEES Culture Night organiser Tara Duggan says the event will have something for everyone: 鈥淲hether it鈥檚 animals, plants, geology or the environment in general you鈥檙e interested in, we鈥檒l be bringing the natural world to the public right in the heart of our city. We were full to capacity last year, so people should arrive early to avoid disappointment鈥.
