Smelling of roses: BEES MSc graduate targeting perfume sector
Dr Joan de Lacey, a graduate of the MSc Organic Horticulture at BEES has set up The Irish Rose Essential Oil Company.
Growing roses in West Cork, the company hopes to tap into a sector which could be worth 鈧41 billion by 2018.

She told the Irish Times: 鈥淯nderpinning our choices is a strong belief in organic agriculture. Our lands overlook Roaring Water Bay, which is a special area of conservation, so we have a responsibility to maintain organic standards. Ireland is a resource that must be protected.鈥 The company predicts it will employ 16 people in West Cork by year three.
Joan holds an MSc in Organic Horticulture and a PhD in Fluid Dynamics. She has also worked closely with the Rubicon Centre at Cork Institute of Technology.
