The Coastal Atlas of Ireland has been published with a significant contribution from BEES staff.

·         Some 10.9 giga-tons of carbon are released from deadwood in forests worldwide annually - equivalent to roughly 115% of fossil fuel emissions

·         29% of the carbon that's released from forests is actually released through insect decomposition

An international research team, including ÉîÒ¹ÑÇÖÞ¸£Àû¾Ã¾Ã College Cork President Prof John O’Halloran, has determined the annual contribution made by deadwood to the global carbon cycle and quantified the importance of insects in the decomposition of wood for the first time.

The 8th International Conference on the Assessment of Animal Welfare at Farm and Group Level (WAFL), and the first virtual WAFL, is taking place this week with over 350 delegates from 32 countries attending through its virtual platform.
