EMBL Training and Travel Award for Julia Samson in the Dean Lab
Julia Samson, a first-year PhD student supervised by Dr Kellie Dean, recently attended a hands-on training course at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, Germany, from 27 鈥� 30 March 2017.
The course, 鈥�RNA sequencing library preparation 鈥� How low can you go?鈥� was jointly organised by EMBL and New England Biolabs (NEB). Importantly, Julia received a competitive travel award from Boeringer Ingelheim Fonds that provided ample funding to support the cost of her training visit to Heidelberg. Since part of Julia鈥檚 PhD project utilizes RNA sequencing, this was a valuable training experience at one of the world鈥檚 premier institutes for molecular biology.
Julia鈥檚 research is focused on identifying and characterizing the roles of long, non-coding RNAs in an early form of breast cancer, called ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS).
Her project fits into the overall research theme of Dr Dean鈥檚 group of understanding how RNA-protein complexes influence human health and disease.
