Staff and researchers in the School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology conduct fundamental and applied research using genetics and genomics of model organisms (worm, zebrafish, mouse) and humans to understand fundamental mechanisms of biology and disease. Areas of active investigation include genetic decoding, genetic control of embryonic development, molecular genetics, genomics and cell biology, non-coding RNAs, RNA-binding proteins, and genetic and genomic analysis of diseases in model systems and humans including cancer, neurodegeneration and regeneration.

Members of the Department have also been at the forefront of technology development in the use of new methods for production and analysis of large genomic data sets.
