UCC Biochemistry and Biotechnology Society host their first seminar this semester
The Biochemistry and Biotechnology Society hosted a seminar on Tuesday 20th October entitled 鈥淎n Insight into BioMarin and roles in the Biotechnology Sector鈥.
The speaker on the evening was Aoife McCarthy, a BSc Biochemistry and MSc Biotechnology graduate. Aoife outlined her career profile to date, commencing with her role as Process Technologist at GeneMedix in 2008. Aoife moved from GeneMedix to Pfizer Biotechnology Ireland and worked as a Biotechnician and Process Engineer with Pfizer Biotechnology.

In 2011 Pfizer Biotechnology Ireland were acquired by BioMarin and Aoife was one of a small number of staff retained as an employee by BioMarin. Aoife worked as a Manufacturing Supervisor from September 2011鈥揓uly 2014. Subsequently, Aoife took up a role in BioMarin as Purification Manager.
The Biochemistry and Biotechnology Society would like to thank Aoife for the very informative seminar, outlining the wide range of opportunities that are available in the Biotechnology sector and for providing the audience with an insight into what it is like to work in BioMarin.
