CARDEA is a group (many of us HR Professionals) with a proven track record in the delivery of initiatives to support research staff within our own universities and organisations. Under the framework provided by the HR Excellence in Research initiative we work to improve policy and practice, recruitment and working conditions, and the training and development of research staff. Through CARDEA we will now leverage our experience to introduce policy and career practice guidelines for Research Managers in the European Research Area.
Objective
The overall objective of CARDEA is to enable the Professionalisation of Research Management as a valued career choice within the European Research Area. Through CARDEA we will propose clear and identified role competencies, progression pathways, standards for benchmarked and indexed salaries and access to appropriate skills development for Research Managers at all stages of their careers.

Our Sister Project - RM ROADMAP
Cardea and RM Roadmap
and CARDEA are two Horizon Europe projects funded by the European Commission under the HORIZON-WIDERA-2021-ERA-01 call. The two projects started in 2022. For both, the bottom-up component in the involvement of the research management community is very important. The two projects collaborate on a regular basis to maximise project impact and avoid undesirable duplication of efforts or results. Both coordinators share the willingness to collaborate for the good of the RM community and the Research and Innovation system where synergies exist.
About RM Roadmap
will allow existing European networks to connect on a smart community platform which will enable an unprecedented consultation process in research management in the world. This co-creation process will gather the existing communities and expand upon them to reach two main objectives - To create and inform a bottom-up consensus on the future of RM in a roadmap, and to inform the community about existing training, networking, funding, and career mobility opportunities.
The CARDEA project is funded by the European Union. However, all views and opinions expressed are those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or the European Research Executive Agency (REA). Neither the European Union nor REA can be held responsible for them.
