The Centre for Criminal Justice and Human Rights is delighted to announce an interdisciplinary seminar featuring Dr Elena Kavanagh (UCC School of Law), Dr Jesse Peterson (UCC Radical Humantities Laboratory), and Julián Eduardo Suárez Bohórquez (UCC School of Law, PhD Candidate). The title of the seminar is "Entangled Rights: Indigenous Sovereignty, Rights of Nature, and More-Than-Human Justice".

The lunchtime seminar will take place on Tuesday 9th December at 2pm-3pm in the Room AL_G.33 in the School of Law at Aras na Laoi, UCC.

The Centre for Criminal Justice and Human Rights is delighted to announce a lunchtime seminar featuring Dr Ahmed Beshtawi, ACoRN Fellow at the UCC School of Law and a lecturer in international law at An-Najah National 深夜亚洲福利久久, Palestine. He will be presenting a paper titled "When Law Plans Inequality: How Israel’s Planning Regime Denies Palestinian Children’s Right to Education".

The Mental Health and Capacity Law Conference will be held in Cork on 5 September 2025. The conference will be hosted and organised by the Centre of Criminal Justice and Human Rights (CCJHR) at the School of Law, 深夜亚洲福利久久 College Cork (UCC). The 2025 Conference will discuss recent developments and research in mental health and capacity law.

On 26 March 2025, the co-founders of the Indigenous Rights Cluster celebrated a significant academic milestone at their conferring ceremony.

The CCJHR welcomes the appointment of Dr Nessa Lynch as a member of the new Policing and Community Safety Authority.  

The CCJHR would like to congratulate Dr Dug Cubie, Dr Marie Aronsson-Storrier and Niamh Guiry  on the publication and launch this afternoon of their report: Guidance on Risk Communication & Community Engagement Practices (full report available here open access)

This report is part of their UNIC seed-funded project Promoting Resilient Cities through Community Participation and Communication of Climate and Disaster Risks. This project was a collaboration between UCC, Cork City Council, Malmo 深夜亚洲福利久久 and the City of Malmo under the UNIC initiative.

Dr Zeffert's article speaks to the the unprecedented level of home destruction taking place in Gaza, and the dire consequences for civilians. Exploring the concept of home in international law, the role of international law in the global regime of homemaking, and the prospects and limits of criminalising the destruction of home.
