Mark O'Halloran, newly appointed Film Artist in Residence 2017/18.

Film and Screen Media, in association with the Arts Council and College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences, is delighted to announce the appointment of its 2017-8 Film Artist in Residence, Mark O'Halloran.

 

Mark O鈥楬alloran is a writer/ actor and is from Co. Clare, Ireland.  As an actor he has worked with all the major theatre companies in Ireland, most recently in the acclaimed production of 鈥The Importance of Nothing鈥 with Pan Pan theatre company and 鈥The Shadow of a Gunman鈥 with The Abbey Theatre Dublin.  On screen he has appeared in numerous films, most notably as one of the eponymous heroes in 鈥ADAM & PAUL鈥 for which he also wrote the screenplay and the lead role of MP in 鈥History鈥檚 Future鈥 directed by Fiona Tan for which he was nominated as Best Actor at IFTA awards 2017. He also appears in 鈥The Guard鈥 and 鈥颁补濒惫补谤测鈥 and in 鈥痴颈惫补鈥, a film set in Havana for which he also wrote the screenplay.

 

Mark鈥榮 other writing credits include the multi award winning film 鈥GARAGE鈥, the television series 鈥PROSPERITY鈥 and 鈥湷站北共光 a Spanish language feature. For the stage he has written the play 鈥TRADE鈥 and most recently contributed text to the award winning theatre production 鈥LIPPY鈥.

 

Mark has been nominated for numerous awards including a European Film Award for the screenplay of 鈥ADAM & PAUL鈥, Irish Film and Television Awards where he won for both 鈥淏est Screenplay鈥 and 鈥淏est TV writer鈥 2007.  He also won the London Evening Standard award for 鈥淏est Screenplay鈥 in 2005. 鈥TRADE鈥 was named as 鈥渂est play鈥 at the Irish Theatre Awards 2012. 鈥Lippy鈥 was 鈥淏est Production鈥 at 2014 Irish Theatre Awards as well as winning a Fringe First at Edinburgh and 2 Obie Awards in New York. 鈥淰滨痴础鈥&苍产蝉辫;was shortlisted for best foreign language Oscar and nominated for Best Screenplay at the IFTA awards 2016. Mark was also nominated as 鈥淏est Actor鈥 in the Irish Time Theatre Awards for his performance as Donal Davoren in the Abbey Theatre鈥檚 production of Shadow of a Gunman.

 

Other screenplay include 鈥Halal Daddy鈥 which will be released in 2017, LANE a televisionscript that films this summer, directed by Thaddeus O鈥橲ullivan, and also TRADE, which goes into production in late summer 2017.
