FOODPATH Partners showcase their findings at the ISBNPA conference.

9 Jun 2026
The FOODPATH project had a strong and visible presence at the ISBNPA conference, showcasing work across multiple work packages and countries, and generating valuable dialogue on advancing equitable food environments.

As part of Work Package 2 (WP2), Evita van Duin presented the scoping review on company practices related to the food environment and the mechanisms through which these practices may influence inequity.  The poster sparked engaging discussions with fellow researchers, particularly around how to move towards more equitable food systems. A key output of this work is an emerging framework that maps the pathways through which company practices may create, reinforce, or reduce inequities in the availability and accessibility of healthy food. Evita commented that "It was especially rewarding to share the work carried out by the FOODPATH team, together with colleagues from the Irish, Dutch, Turkish, and Polish teams."

Complementing this, Prof. Dr. G眉l艧ah Kaner delivered an oral presentation on the evaluation and prioritisation of food environment policies in T眉rkiye using the Healthy Food Environment Policy Index (Food-EPI). As the first application of Food-EPI in T眉rkiye, the study provides important evidence on the current state of policy implementation and identifies priority actions to improve food environments. The presentation attracted significant interest from an international audience and generated constructive feedback from experts in public health nutrition and policy evaluation, further strengthening the relevance of the findings for informing future policy development. Prof. Kaner described the Conference as "highly productive and inspiring bringing together researchers, practitioners, and policy experts from diverse backgrounds. The sessions provided valuable insights into current research on physical activity, nutrition, behavioural science, and public health, while also creating opportunities for meaningful discussions, networking, and future collaborations."

From Work Package 3 (WP3), Piotr Romaniuk presented a poster entitled 鈥淓valuating Municipal-level Food Environment Policies in Zabrze, Poland: Expert Assessment and Community-derived Policy Options. An Insight into FOODPATH Project Results鈥 . The poster summarised results of the study assessing the local food environment policies in Zabrze and highlighted community- and expertderived policy options to support access to healthier diets among residents experiencing socioeconomic insecurity.

The presentation sparked an invigorating and inspiring discussion with researchers and practitioners interested in how municipalities can design more equitable food environment policies that reflect both local evidence and lived experience, as well as how participatory methods may be employed to investigate political and social phenomena.

Prof. Romaniuk said "It was particularly rewarding to showcase the work of the Polish FOODPATH team and to situate the Zabrze case within broader European efforts, under the ERA4Health HealthEquity stream, to reduce dietrelated inequalities through contextsensitive, participatory policy approaches".

Overall Impact

Collectively, FOODPATH contributions at ISBNPA demonstrated the project鈥檚 significant impact in advancing knowledge, policy relevance, and collaboration in the field of equitable food environments. The presentations highlighted:

  • Scientific contribution: Development of new conceptual frameworks, novel applications of Food-EPI, and locally grounded policy analyses.
  • Policy relevance: Generation of actionable evidence to inform national and municipal strategies aimed at improving food environments and reducing diet-related inequalities.
  • Equity focus: Strong emphasis across all presentations on addressing socioeconomic disparities and promoting fair access to healthy diets.
  • Collaboration and visibility: Engagement of multiple country teams and interaction with an international network of researchers, practitioners, and policymakers.
