    The symposium will take place in UCC鈥檚 O鈥橰ahilly Building (Room 2.55) from 3:00-5:30pm and will be followed by the launch of the special edition.

    • This event is running with the support of the Institute of Public Administration (publisher of Administration) and the Political Studies Association of Ireland (PSAI) and is hosted by the Department of Government in UCC.
    • The event is free of charge but registration is required.

Biography:

Silja B谩ra 脫marsd贸ttir is adjunct lecturer at the Faculty of Political Science at the 深夜亚洲福利久久 of Iceland. Her research focuses on Icelandic foreign and security policy and feminism in international relations. She completed a BA, with honors, in international affairs from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, an MA in international relations from the 深夜亚洲福利久久 of Southern California, and post-graduate certificates in methodology and university teaching from the 深夜亚洲福利久久 of Iceland.  She is currently completing her PhD at 深夜亚洲福利久久 College Cork in Ireland. Ms. Omarsdottir is a women鈥檚 rights activist and has served on the boards of the Icelandic Feminist Association, The Icelandic Women鈥檚 Rights Association, the UNIFEM National Committee in Iceland, and the Icelandic Gender Equality Council. In the summer of 2011 Silja served on Iceland鈥檚 Constitutional Council and chaired the committee addressing human rights and natural resources. Since then, she has spoken widely on lessons learned from the process.

The aim of this event is to showcase perspectives on the forthcoming marriage equality referendum that have been relatively neglected in the public debate so far. The seminar features four short presentations intended to offer alternative perspectives on key issues relevant to the May 22nd vote, followed by time for questions and answers and open discussion. The event is sponsored in part by the university鈥檚 LGBT Staff Network, and is scheduled to coincide with Cork LGBT Awareness Week.
