Eileen Weir is the Network Co-ordinator with the Shankill Women's Centre in Belfast. The Centre was formed in 1987 and is located in a disadvantaged ward in North Belfast. Eileen first volunteered with the Centre in the late 1990s, later becoming an outreach worker. She played an important role in ensuring that largely under-represented voices were heard during the peace talks leading to the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement. Eileen also worked with prisoners released early under the Agreement helping them to integrate back into society, to secure employment and to adapt to family life. In 2018, Eileen was awarded the Community Relations Exceptional Achievement Award for promoting community relations, intercultural work and peace-building in Northern Ireland.

The UCC Jean Monnet Lecture series is supported by the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet programme.
