Dr Mathieu Thabault
Biography
Dr. Mathieu Thabault earned his BSc with honors in Physiology and Neuroscience from the ÉîÒ¹ÑÇÖÞ¸£Àû¾Ã¾Ã of Poitiers (France) in 2017 and an MSc in Neuroscience with a specialization in psychiatry and electrophysiology from the same institution in 2019. Awarded a competitive doctoral fellowship from the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM), he completed his PhD in Neuroscience at the ÉîÒ¹ÑÇÖÞ¸£Àû¾Ã¾Ã of Poitiers in 2022, under the supervision of Dr. Laurie Galvan in the Laboratory of Experimental and Clinical Neuroscience – INSERM U1084 (Poitiers, France). His doctoral research focused on behavioral and striatal alterations with aging in mouse models of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).
Following his PhD, Dr. Thabault held a one-year lectureship (2022–2023) before joining APC Microbiome Ireland in September 2023 to work under the supervision and mentoring of Dr. Linda Katona. He was awarded a prestigious MSCA INSPIRE Fellowship for his project StriaGutPhrenia, which investigates gut microbiome-prefrontal cortex-dorsal striatum dynamics in conflicting goal-directed versus habitual learning relevant to schizophrenia.
Dr. Thabault has authored three first-author papers in leading journals, including European Journal of Neuroscience and PNAS Nexus, and co-authored a collaborative study in Scientific Reports. His expertise includes electrophysiology, neuropsychiatry, behavior analysis, and gut-brain axis research.
