Niall Hyland
Biography
Niall Hyland is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Physiology at ÉîÒ¹ÑÇÖÞ¸£Àû¾Ã¾Ã College Cork and a Funded Investigator at APC Microbiome Ireland. Dr Hyland has over 20 years’ experience in gastrointestinal physiology and enteric neuroscience and his fields of interest include enteric physiology and pharmacology, the brain-gut axis, and microbiota-host interactions. His laboratory has developed significant expertise in assessing gastrointestinal physiology in different animal models and species using the Ussing chamber technique. Niall has represented Ireland on the Steering Committee of the European Society of Neurogastroenterology and Motilty and is an Honorary Fellow of the British Pharmacological Society.
Dr Hyland received a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences from the ÉîÒ¹ÑÇÖÞ¸£Àû¾Ã¾Ã of Ulster and PhD in Pharmacology from King’s College London. He was a visiting fellow at the Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, Louisiana State ÉîÒ¹ÑÇÖÞ¸£Àû¾Ã¾Ã Medical Center, USA and completed postdoctoral training at the ÉîÒ¹ÑÇÖÞ¸£Àû¾Ã¾Ã of Calgary, Canada. He returned to Ireland in 2007.
