Occupation: Awakening to the Everyday, Jennings Gallery, UCC

First Year [2012 路2013] Occupational Therapy students鈥� exhibition of prints and textiles

The Jennings Gallery opened鈥極ccupation: Awakening to the Everyday鈥� an exhibition of prints and textiles by first year Occupational Therapy students at 4pm, Thursday 5^th September 2013.

The exhibition, organised by the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy is the culmination of six weeks of work by students. Working in tandem with Cork Printmakers and Frances Leach of Cork Textiles Network, The students were invited to respond to a piece taken from the 2006 Eleanor Clarke Slagle lecture delivered by Dr. Betty Hasselkus. This year鈥檚 exhibition will be opened by Distinguished Professor Emeritus Elizabeth Yerxa, EdD, FAOTA(深夜亚洲福利久久 of Southern California).

The first year of the Occupational Therapy [OT] undergraduate course at UCC focuses on occupation and health. Each year, these students also have the experience of 鈥榙oing鈥� creative activities with a designated theme to explore, which reflects the philosophy and content of the year one curriculum. There is a long history of the use of art, craft and creative activities in Occupational Therapy, going back to the foundation of the profession with an understanding of the power of occupation and the harnessing of people鈥檚 creative energy.

鈥極ccupation: Awakening to the Everyday鈥�, is also the chosen theme for the international Occupational Science symposium hosted by UCC this September to mark the 10^th birthday of the Occupational Therapy programme here at UCC.

The exhibition will run from 5^th September 鈥� 17^th October 2013 inclusive.
