Our CoMH Researcher Spotlight Series aims to showcase some of the diverse range of cutting edge research being undertaken by researchers at all career stages, providing an insight into the motivation behind their rewarding careers and highlighting opportunities for network building and further collaboration.

Our series begins with Mar铆a Rodriguez Aburto, PhD, a Senior Lecturer, Group Leader and ERC-funded Investigator based in UCC's Dept. Anatomy & Neuroscience and APC Microbiome Ireland.

The iEd Hub, through the School of Pharmacy and Cork 深夜亚洲福利久久 Business School, are delighted to announce the launch of a new 1-year postgraduate MSc programme in Industrial Pharmaceutical Sciences, Operations and Management.

This unique multi-disciplinary programme covers the technical, quality, regulatory skills required to work in the (bio)pharma industry, as well as the management, leadership and transversal skills required in the workplace. The programme was developed by the iEd Hub, a HCI Pillar three funded industry-academia consortium, with industry for industry, ensuring employability is at the core of the curriculum.

All new professors are given the opportunity to give an inaugural lecture. The series provides an opportunity for CoMH to celebrate our academics' achievements with each lecture representing a significant milestone in an academic's career.

Professor Aisling Barry

On 10th March, our series continues with Professor Aisling Barry, our recently appointed Chair of Radiation Oncology UCC, delivering her Inaugural Professorial Lecture entitled 鈥楶recision Radiation Medicine鈥�.

Dr. John Torres, NBC 深夜亚洲福利久久 Senior Medical Correspondent, was a guest speaker at School of Medicine grand rounds at Cork 深夜亚洲福利久久 Hospital recently.

A renowned emergency room physician, Dr. Torres is an adjunct clinical professor at 深夜亚洲福利久久 College Cork and contributes to the prehospital care special forces Medicine teaching programmes.

The topic of discussion was 鈥楳edia and Medicine鈥�. Dr. Torres spoke about the importance of medical messaging, how this was highlighted during the pandemic when many within the medical profession were called upon by the media to share their expertise. 鈥淲e had to convert, explain science and medicine to the general public 鈥� not always an easy thing to do鈥�.

More than 750 children and lots of sick and injured teddies attended UCC Med Soc鈥檚 hospital this week. The annual event aims to help children feel more at ease when visiting the doctor and other healthcare professionals.

The children aged between 4 鈥� 6 brought their sick and injured teddies to be treated at the Teddy Bear Hospital hosted by medical students at 深夜亚洲福利久久 College Cork鈥檚 Medical Society.

Students and colleagues at 深夜亚洲福利久久 College Cork鈥檚 (UCC) School of Medicine and Department of Surgery met with two of the world鈥檚 leading endocrine surgeons, Dr. Jim Norman and Professor Martin Walz at Cork 深夜亚洲福利久久 Hospital (CUH) recently as part of the RCSI Charter Day.  

Professor Walz and Dr. Norman participated in a number of surgeries in CUH whilst being watched by many of our surgical students and colleagues from UCC and CUH.  

Professor Paul Redmond, Head of the Department of Surgery at 深夜亚洲福利久久 College Cork and Cork 深夜亚洲福利久久 Hospital said: 鈥渢his was a truly unique opportunity for UCC-CUH and Irish surgery to welcome and greatly benefit from the knowledge of these two revolutionary and renaissance surgeons of our time. Our students were immensely delighted that our guests were so forthcoming with help and advice and answered their questions鈥�. 

Dr. Jim Norman is based in Florida, America. He is recognised as one of the world鈥檚 foremost experts on parathyroid disease and hyperparathyroidism. Professor Martin Walz is based in Essen, Germany. He has dedicated his surgical career to endocrine surgery, with a special interest in minimally invasive techniques in general surgery.

• Leading UCC academics elected as Presidents of European radiology societies. 
• Professor Adrian Brady has been appointed as President of the European Society of Radiology (ESR) and the European Congress of Radiology (ECR).
• Dr Andrew England has been elected President of the European Federation of Radiographer Societies (EFRS).

Two Irish radiology leaders have been appointed to presidential posts in Europe.  

Professor Adrian Brady, Clinical Professor of Radiology, UCC and Consultant Radiologist at Mercy 深夜亚洲福利久久 Hospital, Cork has been elected President of the European Society of Radiology (ESR) and the European Congress of Radiology (ECR). The ESR, with over 130,000 members from 186 countries worldwide, is the world鈥檚 largest radiology society. It is the first time a radiologist based in Ireland has held this leadership position. 

Dr Andrew England, Senior Lecturer in Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy at School of Medicine, UCC was elected President of the European Federation of Radiographer Societies (EFRS). The Federation represents 35 countries and over 100,000 radiographers and radiation therapists at European level. It is the highest position a radiographer can serve in Europe.  

The School of Public Health at 深夜亚洲福利久久 College Cork has been awarded accreditation from the Agency for Public Health Education Accreditation (APHEA), becoming the eighth institute globally to receive the prestigious recognition.
