UCC President addresses Accenture's 19th celebration of International Women's Day
On Wednesday 8 March, President John O鈥橦alloran engaged in a Fireside Conversation with Dr Claire O鈥機onnell, Science Communicator and contributor to The Irish Times, as part of Accenture鈥檚 annual celebration of International Women鈥檚 Day.
An audience of over 1,700 clients, employees, school students, partners and members of the business community came together to celebrate women and to explore the changes that we need to make to advance gender equality. This event looked at how we can build a future where everyone can thrive, focussing on the three areas of work, care and nature.
Nature is in crisis, placing human wellbeing and planetary health at risk. The World Economic Forum have declared that this decade must be the turning point where we recognise the value of nature, place it on the path to recovery and transform our world to one where people, economies and nature thrive. Against this backdrop, Claire and John discussed just what we lose when we lose biodiversity, the value of diversity both in nature and in business and the lessons that we can learn from the natural world.
