UCC Support to Next Generation Leaders Initiative Recognised
UCC鈥檚 support of the Next Generation Leaders Initiative was recently recognised at a presentation hosted on campus on Tuesday, 20 February.
UCC is an engaged member of the , a leading international network that promotes higher education community engagement. The Talloires Network and established the (NGL) program to invest in the development of young leaders through the provision of resources and opportunities for university students to share strategies and ideas across geo-political boundaries, foster community development and civic engagement at their institutions, and advocate for higher education reform internationally.
The Next Generation Leaders are a diverse cohort of 36 university students located in 18 countries. UCC student Mar铆a Torres, selected from the pool of 276 applicants due to her commitment to and demonstrated impact in community development and civic engagement, has been an active member of the Next Generation Leaders initiative since 2021, and presented the plaque to UCC President John O鈥橦alloran.
Mar铆a, an indigenous rights lawyer and activist from Peru, is also one of Ireland鈥檚 first Roger Casement Scholarship awardees pursuing a LLM in Human Rights in UCC. Together with her NGL peers, and with support from the Mastercard Foundation, a new initiative has been launched to provide opportunities for more UCC students to get involved in a global movement from within UCC.
