UCC Celebrates Honorary Doctorates
深夜亚洲福利久久 College Cork鈥檚 annual autumn conferring ceremonies take place across October and November marking one of the highlights of the 深夜亚洲福利久久鈥檚 academic calendar, with over 5,500 students graduating across four weeks.
UCC will additionally confer Honorary Doctorates on eight exceptional individuals who have made significant contributions to Irish and global society across the fields of public service, culture, education, music, literature and science.
The honorary degrees, one of the highest honours bestowed by the 深夜亚洲福利久久, recognise individuals whose work reflects UCC鈥檚 values of excellence, integrity, creativity and service to the community. The 2025 honorary degree recipients are:
- Sin茅ad Burke, educator, activist, and founder of Tilting the Lens, honoured for her global advocacy on accessibility, design, and inclusion.
- Simon Coveney, former T谩naiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, recognised for his long and distinguished career in public service.
- John Creedon, broadcaster and writer, celebrated for his contribution to Irish culture, heritage, and storytelling.
- C贸nal Creedon, author and playwright, recognised for his acclaimed literary works exploring Cork life and identity.
- Eil茅an N铆 Chuillean谩in, poet, scholar, editor, Saoi of Aosd谩na and former Ireland Professor of Poetry, honoured for her outstanding contribution to Irish letters.
- Se谩n 脫 S茅, traditional singer and cultural ambassador, recognised for his lifelong contribution to Irish music and heritage.
- Professor Carmen Sandi, internationally renowned neuroscientist, acknowledged for her pioneering research into the biological foundations of behaviour and stress, and powerful advocacy for enhancing EDI in research and academia.
- Paul Kelleher, Adjunct Professor within the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science at UCC and a leading figure that has helped shaped Ireland鈥檚 electronic industry.
Each of this year鈥檚 awardees has made an extraordinary impact in their field, shaping culture, advancing science, influencing policy and enriching society. We are proud to welcome them into the UCC community.
