Global Lifelong Learning Week Conference 2024

Prof Stephen Byrne formally welcomed delegates to the ASEM Lifelong Learning Hub International Advisory Council meeting which was hosted in UCC on May 29^th as part of the Global Lifelong Learning Week conference. The Irish hosting of the ASEM LLL Hub at UCC takes place from 2020-2025 and is funded by the Irish government with Dr. S茅amus 脫 Tuama (Director of ACE) as Chair. The conference attracted close to 300 delegates from 108 universities and 40 countries across the world.

Representatives from a wide range of key international organisations also participated in the conference including the International Labour Organisation; the European Commission; ASEAN; OECD; UNESCO; Asia Europe Foundation (ASEF); ASEM Education Secretariat; and South East Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO). The International Advisory Council meeting which was chaired by John Murphy, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Unit at the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science included reporting of the activities of the hub鈥檚 seven research networks which comprise 250+ researchers across the ASEM countries. In recognition of their commitment to the hub鈥檚 research mission, Prof. Byrne presented commemorative medals to all of the research network coordinator teams.
