National Tertiary Office Forum
At a recent National Tertiary Office event in Dublin on 13 June, the UCC-Cork ETB teams comprising Kathy Bradley, Joan Cronin, Nuala Finnegan, Fionna O’Connor, and Helen Ryan, presented on the development of the new tertiary degree programme – Bachelor in Social Work.
Joan Cronin outlined the history of Social Work education at UCC and emphasised the innovative nature of the new degree curriculum as well as the supports that would be on offer to students. Fionna O’Connor detailed the process of curriculum co-creation and design undertaken by both teams with careful attention to the mapping of competencies and the requirements of accreditation body, CORU. Professor Finnegan focused on the key components of the successful collaboration including the importance of effective communication and central points of communication as well as the formation of a coalition of willing partners. There was an extended Q&A following the presentation and a commitment to return to report on progress following the first intake in September 2024.
