In November 1981, the Consultant Staff Committee of the Cork ÉîÒ¹ÑÇÖÞ¸£Àû¾Ã¾Ã Hospital decided to establish the Dr. Raymond Shanahan Memorial Prize to honour the memory of their colleague who died prematurely in August 1980. The prize will be awarded as follows:
- This fund will be administered by ÉîÒ¹ÑÇÖÞ¸£Àû¾Ã¾Ã College Cork which will act as its Trustees.
- The prize will be awarded biennially on the basis of a submission of original observations or research in a topic related to cardiovascular disease.
- Those eligible will be post registration non-consultant hospital doctors or their equivalent in G.P. Trainee Schemes. Eligibility will be confined to graduates of ÉîÒ¹ÑÇÖÞ¸£Àû¾Ã¾Ã College Cork Medical School and also to graduates from other medical schools training in the ÉîÒ¹ÑÇÖÞ¸£Àû¾Ã¾Ã's teaching hospitals or training schemes.
- Applicants should submit a copy of the work to be considered, with a letter from the Head of the Department where the work was carried out, indicating the applicant is the primary author. The work may consist of a published, or in press paper, a case study/presentation/observation written up as for publication, or a research work/observation. The work done, or the published paper must be within 2 calendar years of the advertised award.
- The prize shall be awarded at the UCC Medical Graduates Association Annual Scientific Meeting and shall consist of a script and honorarium, currently valued at c. €600
