English芒鈧揕IVING ABROAD OR SENTIMENT IN THE MOTHER TONGE芒鈧, BY HELEN BLEJERMAN
When living far away from homeland, some words of our language provoke strong emotions of nostalgia, affection or closeness. Using psychological, philosophical and semantic concepts, the conference will focus on maternal language spoken from abroad. Inspired by the project "Our Language Garden" the objective of the talk is to reflect on the emotional quality of words in the native tongue when living abroad, and also to reveal the possibilities of their use through technologies like "skype". To this end, Helen Blejerman will reveal statistics, will ask the audience questions and perhaps, if memory permits, tell stories.
Helen Blejerman was born in Mexico City, and at present is based in the UK. With a degree in advertising and a master degree distinction in art, Helen has worked in locations such as Botswana in Africa and currently works in Sheffield (UK) as well as in Mexico City at least one season a year. After exhibiting her art projects nationally and internationally her practice travelled organically into writing and radio. Helen started to write short stories in 2009 for Mexican publishers, and she started to write and devise projects that in the final stage become radio shows (for Radio Sheffield Live 93.2 fm and Radio UNAM 96.1 fm). She has broadcast shows such as 芒鈧揇eciphering the City芒鈧, 芒鈧揈l Proyecto Calavera芒鈧, 芒鈧揙n Pain the Dead and Other Delicacies芒鈧, and 芒鈧揙ur Language Garden芒鈧. Helen is a frequent guest at BBC Radio Sheffield. She has a particular interest in exploring in general, notions of home and distance, and in particular, she is interested in researching the way in which certain words trigger strong feelings of belonging, closing the emotional gap between the person abroad and their homeland.

Al vivir lejos de la tierra materna, algunas palabras de nuestro idioma nos generan emociones de nostalgia, cari脙卤o o cercan脙颅a. Con conceptos psicol脙鲁gicos, filos脙鲁ficos y sem脙隆nticos, la conferencia versar脙隆 sobre el lenguaje materno hablado a la distancia. Inspirada en el proyecto 芒鈧揈l jard脙颅n de nuestra lengua芒鈧, la pl脙隆tica tiene como objetivo reflexionar en la cualidad emocional de las palabras del idioma materno cuando se vive fuera, as脙颅 como revelar las posibilidades de su uso a trav脙漏s de tecnolog脙颅as como 芒鈧搒kype芒鈧. Con este fin, Helen Blejerman revelar脙隆 estad脙颅sticas, har脙隆 preguntas al p脙潞blico y quiz脙隆 tambi脙漏n, si la memoria ayuda, contar脙隆 historias.
Helen Blejerman naci脙鲁 en la Ciudad de M脙漏xico. Estudio publicidad y tiene una maestr脙颅a con distinci脙鲁n en arte contempor脙隆neo. Ha trabajado en sitios como Botswana, en Africa, y actualmente en Sheffield (UK) y en la Ciudad de M脙漏xico. Ha exhibido su arte a nivel nacional e internacional y comenz脙鲁 a escribir cuento corto para editoriales mexicanas en el 2009. Posteriormente sus proyectos la llevaron a escribir y producir programas de radio (para Radio Sheffield Live 93.2 FM y Radio UNAM 96.1 FM) incluyendo 芒鈧揇escifrando a la ciudad芒鈧, 芒鈧揈l Proyecto Calavera芒鈧, 芒鈧揇e dolores, moridos y otras delicias芒鈧 y 芒鈧揈l jard脙颅n de nuestra Lengua芒鈧. Es una invitada frecuente de la estaci脙鲁n BBC Radio Sheffield. Su inter脙漏s principal es explorar nociones de 芒鈧揾ogar芒鈧 y 芒鈧揹istancia芒鈧 (o 芒鈧搇ejan脙颅a芒鈧), y de manera espec脙颅fica, indagar en la manera en que ciertos conceptos detonan poderosos sentimientos de pertenencia, cerrando la brecha emocional entre la persona que vive lejos y su lugar de origen.
