Division 2 Cup Winners

Last weekend saw two of our teams complete their league campaigns, alongside another trophy-winning performance and a packed schedule of finals still to come.

EYHL2 – W1sts Finish Third After Strong Finish

The W1sts travelled to Galway for their final EYHL2 fixture, knowing that a win was essential, while also relying on results elsewhere to keep promotion hopes alive.

UCC started strongly against ÉîÒ¹ÑÇÖÞ¸£Àû¾Ã¾Ã of Galway, producing an excellent first-half display to lead 3–0 at the break. While UCC remained the better side throughout, they were unable to capitalise on further chances in the second half. Despite this, it was a solid and controlled performance to close out the season with a deserved victory.

Elsewhere, Monkstown defeated Avoca, while Harlequins needed a draw or win against Ards to keep UCC in promotion contention. However, Ards secured a 1–0 win, earning promotion alongside Monkstown. UCC ultimately finished third in the table, just one point shy of Ards.

The club also says farewell to Micaela Sanderson, Enya O’Donoghue, Emma O’Sullivan, Isabel Lyons and Eabha Curran. A special mention goes to Eabha, who heads Stateside on a hockey scholarship for the next couple of years—hopefully we’ll see her back in UCC colours in the future.

It has been a fantastic season for the side, suffering only one league defeat across EYHL2 and the Munster Senior League. The team secured a Munster League and Cup double (done only twice in the clubs history), alongside a third-place finish in EYHL2—a tremendous achievement.

Division 3B – Final Game Against Tipperary

The Division 3B team played their final league match against Tipperary. With relegation already confirmed, there was nothing at stake, but the side approached the game with great intent.

UCC started brightly and played well throughout, creating several chances. Unfortunately, those chances weren’t converted, while Tipperary proved more clinical and scored two goals to take the win.

We say goodbye to captain Meabh Hughes and Aisling Sexton. As is often the case with college hockey, the time comes to move on. The team now looks ahead to Division 4 next season, aiming to regroup and push hard for an immediate return to Division 3.

Division 2 Cup Final – Another Trophy Secured

The Division 2 side capped another superb campaign in the Munster Cup Final. Already crowned league champions and entering the match as defending cup holders, the team delivered once again.

A convincing performance against Cork Harlequins, saw UCC score three goals, with strikes from Giselle Keogh, Beth Anne O’Farrell and Sophie Pomeroy, securing another Munster League and Cup double for the club. The team look forward to their last game next Saturday in the Examiner Cup final against Division 1 side Waterford.

Fixtures – Cup Finals Weekend (Garryduff)
