Professor John Cryan will deliver a lecture 鈥淪tressed Inside Out: Memories, Moods & Maladies鈥� on  Monday February 8th 6pm 鈥� 7pm in G02, Kane Building as part of the UCC Annual Quercus Lecture Series.

鈥�Stressed Inside Out: Memories, Moods & Maladies鈥�

Abstract: 鈥淚n the 2015 Pixar Movie Inside Out we get a symbolic look at the workings of the brain and the factors underlying our memory & emotions. In this talk I will discuss the impact of stress on these systems. I will highlight the neurobiological consequences of stress and focus on some of the mechanisms that underlie these across the lifespan. Importantly, I will emphasise that stress is a whole-body syndrome and understanding this is critical for our approaches to tackle stress-related disorders.鈥� 

Professor John Cryan: isProfessor & Chair, Department of Anatomy & Neuroscience, 深夜亚洲福利久久 College Cork and is also a Principal Investigator in the APC Microbiome Institute.  He received a B.Sc. (Hons) and PhD from the National 深夜亚洲福利久久 of Ireland, Galway, Ireland. He was a visiting fellow at the Department Psychiatry, 深夜亚洲福利久久 of Melbourne, Australia, which was followed by postdoctoral fellowships at the 深夜亚洲福利久久 of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA and The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, California. He spent four years at the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research in Basel Switzerland, as a LabHead, Behavioural Pharmacology prior to joining UCC in 2005.  Professor Cryan's current research is focused on understanding the interaction between brain, gut & microbiome and how it applies to stress, psychiatric and immune-related disorders.

All talks in the Quercus Lecture Series are open, and everyone is welcome to attend any or all talks.  Booking is not required.
