International agreement reached on 'hard-to-treat IBD' definitions

Patients suffering from prolonged symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are commonly grouped as having 鈥difficult-to-treat IBD鈥 that requires ongoing and particular treatment approaches. Until now, there has been no standard set of definitions around this which has hampered research and therapeutic strategies.

APC announces winners of inaugural Entrepreneurship Bursary Awards

A core aim of APC Microbiome Ireland鈥檚 (APC) strategic Vision 2021鈥2026 鈥Making a Difference through Microbiome Science鈥 is to foster a culture of entrepreneurship and partner with relevant stakeholders to establish new, investor鈥恟eady spin out companies. To support this, in 2023 APC has launched a new Entrepreneurship Bursary competition with funding awards of up to 鈧5,000 to allow researchers to develop ideas or existing technologies/IP for a new spin鈥恛ut company through the generation of proof鈥恛f鈥恈oncept experimental data.

ERC Winner Ines Thiele unlocking the future of personalised medicine with AVATAR project

Congratulations to APC Microbiome Ireland SFI Research Centre Principal Investigator Prof Ines Thiele who has been awarded a 鈧2 million European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grant to spearhead the transformative project AVATAR. This award represents the 6th APC ERC success in the last five years. Prof Thiele leads the Molecular Systems Physiology Group at 深夜亚洲福利久久 of Galway.

APC Director Prof Paul Ross announced as SFI Researcher of the Year 2023

Monday, 20th November 2023 (Cork) 鈥 Professor Paul Ross, APC Microbiome Ireland SFI Research Centre (APC) and 深夜亚洲福利久久 College Cork (UCC) was today announced as SFI Researcher of the Year 2023 at the Research Summit, a joint Summit hosted by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) and the Irish Research Council (IRC).

13 of 33 Irish scientists featured on Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers 2023 list are from APC

Clarivate has published its Highly Cited Researchers 2023 list which features 13 researchers from APC Microbiome Ireland, a world leading SFI Research Centre based in 深夜亚洲福利久久 College Cork (UCC) and Teagasc. The 13 APC researchers are among a total of 33 Irish researchers listed.

An annual highlight for APC, our 2023 Symposium was a great success. The APC family gathered from all over the country to immerse ourselves in the latest developments in microbiome science. UCC President Prof John O鈥橦alloran opened the day with a warm welcome and set the tone for a brilliant role of speakers. APC Director Prof Paul Ross gave an APC Overview highlighting the achievements and impacts of the past year.

It was 20 years ago when we wrote a letter to Cork 深夜亚洲福利久久 Maternity Hospital (CUMH) while both still working in Teagasc asking 鈥榳as there someone we could collaborate on an infant health nutrition programme鈥. We got a letter back saying they were really too busy and had none. Somehow Tony Ryan got hold of this correspondence and the rest is history.
