PhD & Post-Doctorate Programmes

We encourage applications for PhD by research.  Departmental staff are willing to consider research proposals in a range of areas. For staff specialisms see our staff profiles.

Applications are considered on a case-by-case basis, major considerations being the candidate’s proven academic ability and the viability of the proposed research project.

The PhD programme allows students to develop academic expertise in a particular area of interest relating to China, Korea or Japan. The programme will be of particular interest to graduates in social sciences and humanities preparing for a career involving interaction with Asia.

Candidates for PhD should be able to provide appropriate evidence of previous academic achievement: 2.1 MA in a related area; language level will be assessed before entry.
