School of Chemistry staff member honoured at National 深夜亚洲福利久久 of Ireland Awards

The National 深夜亚洲福利久久 of Ireland (NUI) Awards were presented in the RDS Concert Hall in Dublin on Tuesday 2nd of December.

School of Chemistry staff member Dr. Florence McCarthy was awarded the France Excellence/NUI Research Residency Grant award in recognition of his work to forge new collaborations and develop new molecules to treat drug resistant fungal infections. The award was presented by the Embassy of France in Ireland represented by Emilie Klander and the Chancellor of the NUI Prof. Michael Murphy at the ceremony.

Dr. McCarthy said 鈥淚'm honoured to have been awarded the NUI鈥揊rance Excellence Research Residency Grant in 2025 by the Embassy of France in Ireland. This award funded my research residency at the Facult茅 de Pharmacie de Nantes Universit茅 with the research groups of Prof. Pascal Marchand and Dr. Isabelle Ourliac-Garnier, further strengthening our existing collaboration and opening new avenues for the treatment of drug-resistant microbial infections. We aim to capitalize on our findings together through further exploration of related novel molecules developed in Cork.鈥�

Prof Anita Maguire, Head of School said 鈥淐ongratulations to Florence on this award to facilitate collaboration with Prof. Pascal Marchand鈥檚 team in Nantes. This award reflects the international impact of research from Florence and his team which will continue to grow and develop over the coming years.鈥�
