The second annual Haunted Futures Conference took place in the Department of Film and Screen Media from the 29th to the 30th of October 2024

In addition to the conferences sustained focus on hauntology and the ghost as symbol for radical social justice, this year’s conference welcomed papers on “The Future of Folklore” and asked delegates to consider how folklore can usefully combat and destabilise systemic injustice.

Ciara Hyland is a highly experienced documentary director having made many broadcast documentaries on topics ranging from hunger strikes, epidemic diseases, sexual abuse and gender identity to political history. She champions voices that have been side-lined and neglected and is particularly drawn to narratives that have not been previously given a mainstream platform.

A Film Cafe event, reminiscent of the earliest Lumiere screenings will take place on Saturday, 5th of October from 11:00-13:00 at the following address: 46 Sprigg's Road, Gurranabraher. "An Enchanting Grove", explores what it means to be away from home. It is also inspired by a Romanian children's storybook! See the poster attached for more information.
