BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition
2018
The palaeo group hosted the exhibit 鈥榃alk like a Dinosaur鈥 from the 10th-12th January at the RDS, including real fossils of dinosaur footprints, fossil footprint experiments, a fossil dinosaur video game, dinosaur movement virtual reality and more. The exhibit was a huge success. Many thanks to our dedicated team of volunteers, in particular Chris Rogers, Luke McDonald, Bianca Govi and Adrian O鈥橠riscoll.
2017
Some of the palaeontology research group went to the BT Young Scientist competition during the weekend, where we displayed our own exhibit 鈥淲alk Like A Dinosaur鈥. This project was created by palaeontologists in UCC鈥檚 School of BEES, UCC鈥檚 School of Engineering and UCC鈥檚 Department of Computer Science. A sensor was attached to the legs of visitors to our stand, which was used to estimate their speed whilst walking / running, and what species of dinosaur this was equivalent to! Each member of the public that participated received a personalized talk about their species. We also brought along some trilobite fossils, an ammonite fossil, a fossilized Megalodon tooth and a cast of Microraptor!
