Congratulations to Aoife Slyne, PhD trainee, who was presented with a Rob Clarke Award at The Physiological Society鈥檚 2021 President鈥檚 Lecture and Awards Evening, held at The Royal Society, London.

Prof. Ken O鈥橦alloran delivered a talk at the 4^th Neural Control of Breathing Meeting, a virtual satellite meeting of the 56^th Annual Congress of the Brazilian Physiological Society (SBFis), October 15 2021.

The European Young Physiologists鈥� Symposium (EYPS) took place at the European Physiology Day virtual meeting held by the Federation of European Physiological Societies on the 12^th of October 2021.

Dr. John Mackrill presented a 3 minute talk and an ePoster at The Physiological Society鈥檚 meeting on 鈥淣ew Roles for Ion Channels and Transporters in Health and Disease鈥� this September. 

Ms. Alana Cutliffe begins an Irish Research Council (IRC)-funded PhD project on oesophageal cancer, under the supervision of Dr. John Mackrill (Department of Physiology) and Dr. Sharon McKenna (Cork Cancer Research Centre) this September. This project is funded by the . The title of this grant is: 鈥淭he Examination of the Effects of Acid-Exposure on Oesophageal-Cancer Cells: Examining its Effects on Calcium (Ca²⁺) Signals which Promote Cancer Growth鈥�. 

Aoife Slyne, PhD trainee & Lilly Scholar, presented an oral communication this week at Future Physiology 2021, a meeting of The Physiological Society.

This Spring, the Department of Physiology is hosting a number of alumni and friends of the BSc Physiology degree programme.
