Quercus Sports' Scholar, Edwin Edogbo, has been named on the Ireland Six Nations' Squad.

On Tuesday 28th October we celebrated our new scholars for 2025/26 at the Quercus Awards Night in the Aula Maxima in UCC. Family and friends of the new Quercus scholars joined us on the night along with some members of staff and our partners, Bank of Ireland. 

On the 12th of September the new Quercus Scholars for 2025/26 enjoyed their induction day in the North Wing Council Room. UCC President, Prof. John O'Halloran, welcomed the scholars, as did our partners, Bank of Ireland. 

Congratualations to Quercus Scholar, Alex Kendellen, who joined the rest of the Irish Rugby team against Portugal, as he received his first senior Ireland call up. 

The Quercus musicians are much sought after across the 深夜亚洲福利久久 for events, conferences, awards nights etc. 

Congratulations to Quercus Creative & Performing Arts Scholar, Donnchadh Mac Aodha, who won the Seán Ó Ríada Compostition Competition at the Cork Choral Festival.

The UCC Sports Awards were in the River Lee last night. It was a fantastic night with amazing food, great speeches and inspiring young (and older) sports people.

UCC Rugby had a great win over Queens 深夜亚洲福利久久 Belfast in AIL 1B today. The victory also meant that UCC received the Dudley Cup. 

Cian Walsh has won the Political Sciences Student of the Year Award for 2024. 

This year, to mark the 20th anniversary of the One Dublin One Book initiative, Dublin City Council has released an anthology Dublin, Written in our Hearts. This anthology includes works from a selection of poets and writers across the past 20 years, and one of the Quercus Scholars, Rere Ukponu, is among them. 

Congratulations to Gene O'Leary Kareem and Michael Foy who were named on the Ireland U 20 Six Nations Squad 2025.

Volunteers from 深夜亚洲福利久久 College Cork and members of An Garda Siochana handed out high visibility jackets outside the Mardyke Arena over the course of two nights.

Congratulations to Cork who won the All-Ireland Senior final in Croke Park last Sunday, 11th August. 

There were three Quercus alum, Laura Hayes, Hannah Looney and Amy O'Connor, and one current Quercus scholar, Aoife Healy, on the team.

Congratulations to Quercus Scholar, Paul O'Donovan, and his partner, Fintan McCarthy, on their Men's Light Weight Double Sculls Gold medal at the Paris Olympics.

A huge congratulations to Donnchadh mac Aodha who has won the Danijela Kulezic-Wilson Undergraduate Award for Exceptional Innovation in Research for this year. The award is given by the School of Film, Music and Theater and was granted to Donnchadh for the innovation, creativity and originality of his final year project, 脡ist le Fuaim na hAbhann. Echoing Sean-n贸s in Contemporary Classical Composition.

The twenty new Quercus Scholars for the academic year 2023/24 were celebrated at their Gala awards dinner on November 22nd in the Aula Maxima.

Congratulations to Emily Hegarty who graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Physiology on November 14th. Emily juggled being a professional athlete and fulltime student to achieve this success and we are very proud of her.

A hearty congratulations to Quercus Sports' Scholar, John Hodnett, who graduated from Physical Education, Sports Studies & Arts on Friday.

The T谩naiste, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Minister for Defence, Miche谩l Martin TD has formally announced Alicia Joy O鈥橲ullivan as a United Nations Youth Delegate.

Alicia is a UCC law student, advocate and Quercus Scholar from Skibbereen, West Cork. She was the UCC Students鈥� Union Environmental and Sustainability Officer in 20/21 and was part of UCC鈥檚 delegation to the global climate summit COP26 in Glasgow.

As UN Youth Delegate, Alicia will work closely with the Department of Foreign Affairs, including Ireland鈥檚 Permanent Mission to the United Nations, Irish Aid, and the National Youth Council of Ireland throughout her year in office.

Congratulations to the twenty new Quercus Scholars who had their Induction Day on Friday 15th September in the North Wing Council Room, UCC. 

The day started with a welcome from UCC President, Prof. John O'Halloran, and included workshops such as student budgeting, life coaching, and information about UCC Skills Centre.

Congratulations to Quercus alum, Paul O'Donovan, and his partner in the Lightweight Men's Double Sculls, Fintan McCarthy, on their Gold medal at the Rowing World Championships in Serbia. 

The Rowing World Championships were on in Serbia over the weekend. With just one Olympic qualifying spot up for grabs in the B Final of the Lightweight Women's Double Sculls, Quercus Scholars, Mags Cremen and Aoife Casey, had the weight of a nation's hopes on their shoulders!

A special congratulations to the seven Quercus Scholars/alum who were in the team, Amy O'Connor (captain), Libby Coppinger, Fiona Keating, Laura Hayes, Aoife Healy, Hannah Looney & Chloe Sigerson. 

Andrew Sheehan put in an extraordinary row in the BM1X to win Silver at the U-23 Rowing World Championship in Bulgaria. 

Huge congratulations to our Innovation/Entrepreneurship Scholar, Emma Coffey, on winning the Enterprise Ireland Student Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Emma is a Commerce Student and she is the founder of FinalBend, a sustainable clothing company. 

Congratulations to Munster who won the United Rugby Championship (URC) title on Saturday. They beat Stormers 19-14 in Cape Town to seal the title. 

The sun was shining for the Medicine & Health graduation ceremonies in UCC on Friday 26th May, and it particularly shone on our golden boy, Paul O'Donovan - or should we now say Dr. O'Donovan! 

Paul received his Quercus Sports' Scholarship in 2018 and he has been studying GEM in the university since then. His hard work and dedication to reach Olympic gold, while retaining first class honours results, has inspired us all throughout those years and we cannot believe how fast they have flown.

UCC Rugby beat Malone at the Mardyke to keep their Division 1B status on Saturday. 

The Mayor of Limerick, Francis Foley, held a Mayoral Reception in honour of Quercus Innovation/Entrepreneurship scholar, Nick Cotter, and his brother Jack on April 3rd, in the Council Chamber. 

We were honoured to have the Australian Ambassador to Ireland, The Hon Gary Gray AO, to give our annual Quercus Lecture for 2023.

Kacper Bogalecki will be heading across the Atlantic soon! He was accepted on the Washington Ireland Programme Class of 2023, a hugh achievement for a first year!

Congratulations to UCC Ladies Hockey who beat Harlequins, in a 3-1 shootout, to become winners of the Munster Senior Cup.

Four Quercus scholars, Alex Kendellen, Jack O'Sullivan, Edwin Edogbo & Scott Buckley, were named on the Munster Squad that faced Gloucester in a pre-season match at Musgrave Park on Friday evening. 

Congratulations to the Senior Irish Hockey squad who qualified for the EuroHockey Championships over the weekend. The EuroHockey Championships will take place in Mochengladback in 2023. Quercus Scholar, Caoimhe Perdue, was part of the successful team and we are delighted for her!!

Ireland's Women's Four won Silver at the European Rowing Championships in Munich on Saturday. The boat included our fanastic Sports' Scholar and Commerce student, Tara Hanlon.

Plenty of Quercus Scholars and alum took part at the Fleadh '22 in Mulligar. 

Nick Cotter has won the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards 2022!!! Nick is the CEO and co-founder of Cotter Agritech, along with his brother Jack. 

Back in March, Nick Cotter won the Entrepreneurs' Organisation Ireland Chapter GSEA Competition for his business, Cotter Agritech. He is now representing Ireland in the finals of the Global Students Entrepreneurship Awards. 

Congratulations to Annie Madden, Quercus Innovation/Entrepreneurship scholar and Law & Business student, who has won this year's Enterprise Ireland Student Entrepreneur of the Year award. 

Quercus Innovation/Entrepreneurship scholar and Commerce student, Emma Coffey, is a finalist in this year's Cork Chamber of Commerce Cork Company of the Year award for her business FinalBend.

Quercus active citizenship scholar, climate activist and advocate for women's rights, Alicia O'Sullivan, is featured in the Spring edition of Independent Thinking with Prof. Louise Crowley, Director of the Bystander Intervention Programme. 

The Student Council Charter, represented by Reuban Murray of the ISSU (Irish Second Level Students' Union), has been declared the winner of the 2022 Charlemagne Youth Prize for Ireland. 

We were delighted to hear that Quercus Academic Scholar, Hannah Keohane, has been awarded the NUI Dr H H Stewart Medical Scholarship in Pathology 2021. She has also been awarded a Commendation in Medical Microbiology.

Congratulations to all the Quercus Scholars who have graduated over recent weeks. These include 2021 graduates and graduates from 2020 who are now enjoying their physical graduation after Covid-19 put their celebrations on hold. 

Quercus Scholar, Emma Coffey, was on RT脡's Late Late Show promoting her business FinalBend on Friday night. She displayed a small selection of her clothing products and discussed her services with the presenter, Ryan Tubridy.

Congratulations to Quercus 深夜亚洲福利久久 Scholar, Siobh谩n Cronin, who has won the Gael Linn Third Level Debating competion with her partner, Oisin O Sioch谩in. The competition was held as part of the Oireachtas na Gaeilge festival week.

Quercus Active Citizenship Scholar, Alicia O'Sullivan, will represent UCC and Ireland at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP26.

The FIH Junior World Cup takes place in Potchefstroom, South Africa, between December 5th and 16th this year, and Quercus Scholar, Caoimhe Perdue, will captain the team!

Emily Hegarty and Paul O'Donovan have signed up to UCC's Covid-19 rapid testing project, UniCov. They join many others on the staff and student body who are taking part in the project, which aims to use rapid antigen tests as a means to enhance and complement existing public health measures such as vaccines, hand-hygiene, face-coverings, and social distancing.

深夜亚洲福利久久 College Cork (UCC) has unveiled a banner on its old historic gates in support of its current student Paralympian, Mary Fitzgerald, who will represent Team Ireland.

Congratulations to Emily Hegarty who was named, along with the rest of her crew, as Irish Times/Sport Ireland Sportswomen of the Month.

Skibbereen Rowing Club threw a celebratory homecoming event for six of their rowers returning from the Olympic games. Of these six, four are also Quercus scholars, Paul O'Donovan, Emily Hegarty, Aoife Casey and Lydia Heaphy.

In the wee hours of the morning on July 29th, 2021, Quercus Scholar, Paul O'Donovan, and his partner, Fintan McCarthy, broke history by winning Ireland's first ever rowing Gold. 

Congratulations to the Women's Four of Aifric Keogh, Eimear Lambe, Fiona Murtagh and most especially our Quercus Scholar, Emily Hegarty, on their bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics. The achievement is made all the more historic by the fact that they are the first female rowers for Ireland to ever medal at the Olympics. 

We are delighted for you Emily!!! Your hard work and dedication has been rewarded on the most spectacular sporting stage of all!  

深夜亚洲福利久久 College Cork, in association with Cork City Council, has unveiled a special city centre banner to show the Rebel County鈥檚 support for its Olympic hopefuls ahead of the Tokyo Games, which get underway next week.

Congratulations to Alex Kendellen who has been named as captain for the Ireland Six Nation's U-20 Squad 2021. 

Quercus Sports' Scholar, Mary FitzGerald, has won a bronze medal in the shot put for Ireland at the Para Athletics European Championships in Bydgoszcz. Mary's final throw of 7.35m clinched her the podium position.

We would like to issue a huge congratulations to three Quercus alum, Shane O'Donnell, George O'Mahony & James McGlynn who have all successfully defended their PhDs recently.

Alex Kendellen was named on the Ireland Men's Sevens Rugby Squad that took part in an International Rugby Sevens Tournament at St. George's Park in Britain against the USA and hosts Britain.

Congratulations to Conor Healy who has won SEFS Graduate of the Year 2020.

Quercus Active Citizenship Scholar, Alicia O'Sullivan, has formed a campaign group called Safety Over Stigma to help people whose identities are stolen and used to set up fake profiles on social media. 

Caoimhe Perdue was chosen for the Irish Senior Hockey Squad in a recent series of uncapped games against Great Britain. Caoimhe, a Quercus Sports' Scholar and Nutritional Sciences student, had her first experience of Senior International Hockey when she played a quarter of the first game against Great Britain. 

Two recent UCC graduates and Quercus Creative & Performing Arts' Scholars, Hannah Collins and Mary O'Donnell, delighted us all with a stunning performance at the April 23rd Fuaim concert. Hannah played the piano and Mary played the fiddle. Both scholars graduated from the BMus last September. 

As with most things during the Covid-19 era Quercus has had to move the annual gala online. The gala normally consists of a four course sit down dinner in the Aula Maxima where the students will receive their silver acorn pin as a symbol of their entry to the Quercus family. The Creative & Performing Arts' Scholars always close out the night on a high when they delight attendees with a fifteen minute performance.

Big congratulations to Quercus Sports' Scholar, Mags Cremen, who not only broke the Irish lightweight women's 2000m record in rowing but is also the first Irish lightweight woman to go under seven minutes! 

In honour of DouglassWeek, which commemorates abolistionist Frederick Douglass' tour of Ireland between 1845-46, Quercus Scholars, Alana Daly Mulligan & Nyala Grunwald, interviewed two cast members from the musical Hamilton. 

Quercus Active Citizenship Scholar, Anna O'Connor, has written a book titled 'Santa's Magic Mask'. This book is intended to help ease the minds of small children, and some adults too, that Santa will be able to do his job as usual this year, despite Covid-19 restrictions. 

Gormfhlaith N铆 Shioch谩in N铆 Bheol谩in has won an NUI Dr. H.H. Stewart Literary Scholarship in Gaeilge 2020. 

Rose Keating is one of our treasured Creative & Performing Arts' scholars. She has always shocked, surprised and moved us with her creative writing and her talent has seen her win many accolades throughout her young life. 

Creative and Performing Arts Quercus scholar, Gormfhlaith N铆 Sh铆och谩in N铆 Bheol谩in, has received a D贸nal Doc Gleeson Award for performance excellence. This is another is a long list of awards for Gormfhlaith, a multilpe award winner at Feis Maiti煤.

Our fantastic Active Citizenship Scholar, Vera Stojanovic, has been busy helping those less fortunate during these tough COVID-19 times, specifically those in Direct Provision. In recognition of her selfless dedication she has been selected for a Talloires Network COV-AID Student Engagement Award.

Quercus Innovation/Entrepreneurship scholar, Nick Cotter, along with his brother Jack, has won the Local Enterprise Office ICT award in the 2020 Student Entrepreneurship Awards final.

Shane Kingston, Quercus Sports' scholar and Cork forward, has been named the Electric Ireland Higher Education Rising Star Hurling Player of the Year after helping UCC win back-to-back Fitzgibbon titles, scoring 4 points in the 2020 final game against IT Carlow.

Quercus Scholars met Apple's CEO Tim Cook at an event celebrating 40 Years of Apple's contribution to Ireland which was held in Dublin on Monday 20th January, 2020.

We are delighted to announce the speakers for this year's Lecture Series. 

Here the Quercus Scholars and their guests enjoyed a sit down meal followed by the presentation of their Sterling Silver Acorn pins. The Creative & Performing Arts Scholars performed at the end of the night and received a standing ovation for their efforts.

John Hodnett has been confirmed as one of four players added to the Greencore Munster Rugby Academy for the 2019/2020 season. 

Quercus sports' scholars, Paul O'Donavan and Ronan Byrne will attend the Rowing World Cup III in Rotterdam this weekend. 

Congratulations to Quercus Innovation/Entrepreneurship Scholar, Mary Murphy, who was named the winner of the 2019 UCC Student Entrepreneur of the Year.

Congratulations to Ireland who were crowned U20 Six Nations Grand Slam Champions on Friday 15th March. The team included Quercus Sports Scholar, John Hodnett, in the number 8 position. 

Two Quercus Creative & Performing Arts' Scholars, Nicole Delaney & Hannah Collins, are two of the four recipients of the Donal 'Doc' Gleeson Instumental Tuition Award for undergraduate performances. 

UCC have won three major sporting cups over the past month. The Collingwood Cup, The Sigerson Cup and The Fitzgibbon Cup.

Quercus Sports' Scholar, Mary Fitzgerald, won 3 gold medals at the 2019 IWAS World Games in the United Arab Emirates.

Quercus Sports' Scholar, John Hodnett, has been named for Ireland's exciting opening U-20 Six Nation's encounter against England at Irish Independant Park on Friday 1st February.

Disabilty rights activist Joanne O'Riordan has graduated today (Tuesday) from 深夜亚洲福利久久 College Cork.

Joanne, UCC Quercus Active Citizenship Scholar, was conferred this afternoon with a BA in Criminology by (UCC) President, Prof Patrick O'Shea.

"I have loved my time studying Criminology here in UCC. The course was challenging but enjoyable. The Criminology BA is a window on the world, giving insight into human diversity in comples societies and looks at our inclinations to err, conflict, blame and punish" said Joanne. "I got huge support from the Quercus scholarship and UCC's Disability Support Service" added the Millstreet woman. "I found UCC very open-minded and accessible, I rarely had a problem but if I had, they were very quick to help me solve it."

On Friday September 7th, 2018 we welcomed the fifth intake of Quercus scholars to Distillery House. 

It鈥檚 been a busy summer of rowing for Skibbereen Olympian Paul O鈥橠onovan and it鈥檚 going to get a whole lot busier as he takes on the challenge of Graduate Entry Medicine in 深夜亚洲福利久久 College Cork from today (Monday).

One of our Creative & Performing Arts Scholar, Ciara Cullinane, played the part of Joanna in a fabulous production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, from Monday 30th April to Saturday 5th May.

Congratulations to UCC RFC on their promotion to the All Ireland Division 1A League for 2018/19. Every single player on the team gave their hearts, minds, souls and bodies to the task and left nothing on the field in their efforts to beat Bandridge 15-10 in Rifle Park.

Quercus Sports Scholar alumni, Shane O'Donnell, has received a Fullbright Scholarship to Harvard!

Cian Bohane and Paul Kiernan were on the Ireland 深夜亚洲福利久久 Rugby Team that produced a fantastic performance to beat Scotland 33-17 at the 深夜亚洲福利久久 of Edinburgh on Sunday 11th March. 

Congratulations to three Quercus Scholars who were elected to varying posts on the Student Union body. 

Jennifer Chadwick, Quercus Innovation and Entrepreneurship Scholar, has received a place on the Washington Ireland Programme. 

On Friday February 23rd Jack O'Sullivan was named Man of the Match after the U20 Ireland Six Nations' match against Wales.

On the 23rd of November we honoured our 2017/18 Quercus Scholars at a lavish gala in the Aula Maxima.

Quercus Sports' Scholar, Cathal O'Hanlon, was one of the six UCC students who received international caps for representing the combined Irish colleges & universities team.

This year Cork celebrates the 100^th anniversary of Ford in Ireland. One century on from the opening of the Henry Ford & Son Limited manufacturing plant on the Marina in Cork city, which brought considerable socio鈥恊conomic benefits to the city and the surrounding areas, the company’s links to Ireland remain strong.

UCC Ladies Hockey Team created history by winning the Munster Division 1 League title for the first time since 1992 on Sunday 12th March, 2017.

The Clare hurler who broke Cork hearts in the 2013 Senior All-Ireland Hurling final replay by scoring 3-3 in the opening 19 minutes has graduated from 深夜亚洲福利久久 College Cork.

Congratulations to Jennifer Chadwick, Quercus Innovation/Entrepreneurship Scholar, 1^st Pharmacy, who read the 1916 Proclamation aspart of Proclamation Day. 深夜亚洲福利久久 College Cork held a public reading of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic on Tuesday, 15 March, at noon on the Main Quad.

On the 16th of March 2016, we will be having the first ever BOOK RAISER on campus (Devere Hall from 3-4pm) to restore the lost textbooks by challenging every UCC student and faculty to donate one textbook they are not using or would like to gift to the students in Malawi. 

On Saturday, February 13^th Quercus Active Citizenship scholar Alan Hayes and his mum Angela along with over 150 people gathered at the premises at 15 Ormonde Street to mark the occasion.

A group of six Quercus Scholars attended the Web Summit in Dublin on November 3rd, 2015. Calvin O’Callaghan, Dave Calnan, Sarah Jameel, Roisin Fox, Marie Martin and Jennifer Chadwick volunteered at the Web Summit 2015 in the RDS, Dublin.

On October 6th, over 120 guidance counsellors attended the annual UCC guidance counsellors conference.

Thursday, September 10th was World Suicide Prevention Day and congratulations to Quercus Active Citizen Scholar, Roisín Fox, on helping to organise the Paddle Against Suicide that night on the Boardwalk in Cork City.

Congratulations to Quercus Active Citizenship Scholar, Alan Hayes, who performed at last night’s homecoming for the victorious Kilkenny All Ireland winning side. Alan has been performing at all of the Kilkenny homecomings (and that’s a lot!) since he was in 5th Class (pictured right).

The new scheme, The Quercus Talented Programme, offers both prospective and current UCC students the opportunity to apply for scholarships in a number of areas including academia, active citizenship, creative and performing arts, innovation/entrepreneurship and sport.
